Despite the aesthetic beauty and the eco-friendly benefits wood comes with, the question about its resistance to weather conditions always comes up. People are especially concerned about how it would perform in humid areas where moisture content is always sky-high.
But don’t you worry, because modern innovation has made it possible to realize your dream of living in a wooden house while avoiding all the drawbacks.
The very first step is to understand and analyze the general weather of the area you are planning to build a wooden house in. That gives you a proper idea of the problem and how to work around it.
A good example of this is our project in Karjat, Maharashtra. It’s a place susceptible to heavy rainfall so we deployed an integrated approach to protect our A-frame Pod house, OM, at all levels – the foundation, the walls, and the roof.
We built the entire structure on stilts to make sure no amount of water inflow damages the base of the house. The walls were protected by weatherproof coatings to make sure the timber remains unaffected by fungal and mold formations over time.
All that said, there’s always something that goes through, isn’t there? But then, that’s the case with everything under the sun. Even a house built with concrete can give way in front of natural calamities so you can’t do much about that. At least with wood, you know that the damage won’t ever be that massive as to cause real destruction for anyone.
